The goal of Dot’s Preschool Corner is to help children prepare for Kindergarten through the following curriculum areas:

  • Reading: Letter recognition and basic sounds.  Pre-reading and reading skills.  Basic blends, digraphs, and short vowel sounds. Reading and comprehension skills.  Writing skills including letter formation, how to write their individual name, spelling simple sight words and word family words.
  • Math: Number recognition, number sense, number formation, counting by 1s, 10s, 5s, and 2s, sorting, 2D and 3D shapes, patterns, measurement, estimation, graphing and data collection.  
  • Science: Learn to make observations, ask questions, make predictions, experiment, gather results, and share what they have learned. 
  • Art: Exploring the elements of art (lines, shapes, form, color, texture, space, and value). Learning about famous artists and their works of art.  
  • Music: Learning about famous composers and their musical compositions.  Singing songs, playing musical instruments, and exploring rhythm through movement activities. 
  • Gross Motor Skills: Spatial and body awareness, locomotor skills, ball skills, equipment skills, sensory tables, creative play, games, obstacles, and relays.
  • Fine Motor Skills: Shoulder and wrist, wrist and hand, hand and finger, scissors, drawing, and writing activities.  
  • Social Skills: Routines, classroom behavior, working with groups, independent work, and following instructions.
